Miriam - The Women Series

Today in The Women series we meet a character who might surprise you with her story of sin and God's redemptive love. Our prayer is that many will be touched by going deeper in the Word to study women from scripture. Thank you for reading and following this series!

The Women: Miriam

Seven Days Outside the Camp

Guest post by, Linda Osborne

Read along with Miriam's story in the following section of scripture:

I wonder if any of you have you ever been shut outside the camp for seven days. Miriam was—and I have been, as well.

The fact is, that we sin daily. Little sins, big sins, sins with our lips, sins in our hearts, sins against others, sins against God. We all sin—that is an undeniable fact. That's why Jesus had to die.

Praise God for 1 John 1:9: "If we confess our sins He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Women Who Served - The Women Series

The Women: ...Who Served

Living the Song

Guest post by, Joanna Martinez

Follow the name of each woman listed. Read her story in the following scriptures:

But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.” --John 4:23
I think if we are honest with ourselves, we would admit that we can come up with the wrong ideas of what something means, or looks like. For example what does the word serve mean to you?

I was convinced I had a pretty good idea what service entailed. I knew what it looked like, what it involved, and I thought that only certain people were “called” to be “in ministry”. Through looking at the lives of these six women, Anna, Dorcas, Eunice, Lois, Lydia, and Priscilla, I hope we will have our hearts enlightened a little more to what it means to serve.

Rahab - The Women Series

Today in The Women series, you are welcome into a story that is bigger than one woman and her past. Our prayer is that many will be touched by going deeper into God's word to study women from scripture. Please continue to join us each week for this series by checking the blog. The Women: Rahab

Welcome In

Guest post by, Rachael Harry
Read Rahab's story in the following sections of scripture:

For weeks as I prepared my study on Rahab I admit I was a little bit baffled as to how I would relate to her. I mean, there is a lesson on grace and redemption here, which-is-oh-so-good. But what can I get from Rahab that is new and fresh for everyone?

And then God gave me a word that startled me like a welcomed glass of cold water splashed on my thirsty perspective. I pray it does the same for you.

I noticed this word: IN.

That little word “in” was repeated throughout the text. And it wove together an incredible picture of God’s heart for us all.

Mary - The Women Series

The Women: Mary

Mother of Jesus

Written by, Janette McLaughlin

Read Mary's story in the following sections of scripture:

Many of us have some ideas about Mary the mother of Jesus. These familiar passages from the Bible have been read perennially throughout the centuries. But as I spent some time getting to know Mary, some of my preconceived ideas became like shattered stained glass images in my mind about this timeless saint. Because while we are not to pray to Mary, we are to praise God for her story and how she teaches us what it means to be a servant of God.

Surprisingly, what I learned from studying Mary is that God isn't looking for perfect when he chooses a servant. He is not concerned with your list of accomplishments and he doesn't need your plans—he's got it all covered. His plan for your life and for humanity is far greater than we could ever imagine.

Eve - The Women Series

Today we meet the first character in The Women series. And I am thrilled to introduce my very dear friend and kindred spirit, as she shares with us the story of Eve. Our prayer is that many will be touched by the truth in the words here. Please continue to join us each week for this series by checking the blog. The Women: Eve

First Women, Mother of All

Guest post by, Elizabeth L. Paulson

Read Eve's story in the following sections of scripture:
Genesis 1:26-28; Genesis 2-3; Genesis 4:1-2; 25-26

Eve, the mother of all, the first woman…..her story lies in the pages of Genesis , the beginning of His Word. In fact, even if you don’t know much about the Bible, chances are you know who Eve is. As I sat down with my Bible to study this “character”, this woman, I asked the Lord to show her to me in a fresh way, from a new perspective. He answered faithfully, and Eve came to life for me! God wanted me to “get into her skin”..so to speak. To see her world through her eyes. To experience the myriad of emotions she must have felt. I felt God leading me to get inside of her head, to know her character better. And, so it came… a monologue, for lack of a better term, from Eve.

Eve, along with Adam, plays a huge role in our human existence, our human story. And, although, she only has a small portion of Scripture dedicated to her, she lived a lifetime. Days and months and years…an intense lifetime to say the least! Remove from your mind now, what you once felt or perceived Eve to be. Read below as if you are her…Eve the first woman.

The Women Series: A Word for Women

Put Out Into Deeper Waters

Guest post by, Linda Osborne

Do you know the story of the new wine and new wineskins? It's found in Mark2:21-22 (NASB), as Jesus says,
"No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; otherwise the patch pulls away from it ... and a worse tear results. No one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost and the skins as well; but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins.”
I believe there is new wine being poured out upon us by the Holy Spirit in this day. Are we trying to put the new wine, this new work of the Holy Spirit, into our old, familiar wineskins?

The Women Series: Introduction

A Look at the Lives of Five Women in Scripture

Guest post by, Linda Osborne

Women are such a critical part to all that God has done. And the stories of women in the past help us as we walk through our world today. What do they teach us? What do their very stories speak into our generation? What would they say to us if they could speak to us today? In the weeks to come, we'll look at the lives of five women of the Bible and see what they have to say!

We'll look at:
  • Eve
  • Mary, mother of our Beloved
  • Rahab
  • Women Who Served: Anna, Dorcas, Lois and Eunice, Lydia, and Priscilla
  • Miriam
